1960’s Kay Vanguard II Single Pickup Garage Rock Guitar “Red Devil” Red Foil Reflector Model USA

Very cool model with red reflectors in the pickup and bridge cover. All electronics work. The factory installed volume and tone controls are opposite of what is standard: volume is closest to output jack while tone is closest to neck). When volume is turned to silent there is an audible electronic buzz who’s is pretty typical of these guitars. when the tone is turned down the volume appears to dissipate as well but there is a tonal difference; it’s darker and quieter but comes through better when pushed by distortion or fuzz pedals.

Tuners slip a bit when tuning up but seem to hold pretty well once tuned. Bottom strap pin is pushed in a bit. Guitar body has 2 vertical cracks at cutaways. I believe this mau be a 3 piece body and so the cracks may be natural from where the end pieces were glued together. That’s just my guess; in any case, guitar is stable and those cracks have been there for years and haven’t changed.

Cosmetically speaking the guitar has typical wear commensurate of age and use. There are dings, dents, scratches, paint chips etc evident of a 60+ year old guitar. There is a mark from a “coily” cord on back of guitar.

There are a couple of buzzing frets but overall a decent player. Please see video demo for more details.
