DESCRIPTION

Up for sale is a Martin Committee Deluxe #2 Medium Bore Bb trumpet, serial #170461, made in Elkhart, Indiana.

This is the Deluxe version with the beautiful engraving and two-tone brass and nickel-silver construction. It still has a lot of the original lacquer, which has darkened over the years and gives the horn a great vintage look.

More importantly, this one plays really well and has that classic Committee sound.

It was recently serviced by Kevin Stiles at Heritage Music in Kansas City, including a valve alignment. The valves are good and it has good compression.

CONDITION

Good condition.

A lot of the original lacquer is still there and has darkened considerably with age. There is normal lacquer wear, scratches and patina throughout. I actually like the way this one looks. It looks like an old Committee should.

The valves and compression are good, and everything was recently serviced and valve aligned by Kevin Stiles.

PLAYABILITY

This one has that classic Committee sound. Warm, broad and dark, and just a really enjoyable horn to play.

The #2 Medium Bore gives it a nice balance of resistance and openness. I’ve played it myself and this is a good-playing Committee.

WHY THIS HORN

If you’re looking for an old Committee, I think this one checks a lot of boxes.

It’s a Deluxe #2, still has a lot of its original dark lacquer, has good valves and compression, has just been serviced and valve aligned, and most importantly it plays and sounds like a Committee should.
