The Peavey VSX Electronic Crossover is a highly reliable, rack-mountable audio processor. It was built during Peavey’s "bulletproof" era, featuring an all-metal chassis, a robust linear power supply, and standard analog op-amp circuitry. The unit is widely known for having an instructional, pictorial flow diagram printed directly onto the top of its metal housing to help sound engineers configure it without needing a manual.
Layout & Physical Controls
- Two Identical Channels: The front panel is split into two independent channel strips.
- Control Knobs: Each channel features three primary rotary knobs—Input Gain, Low Frequency (LF) Level, and High Frequency (HF) Level.
- Frequency Adjustment: Features a sweepable crossover frequency control knob spanning 1 kHz to 20 kHz
- High-Pass Filter: Includes a dedicated 40 Hz low-cut / roll-off button on each channel to protect subwoofers and main speakers from muddy, power-wasting low-end rumble.
- Visual Meters: Features basic LED clip indicator lights to monitor input signal clipping.
Rear Panel & Connectivity
- Configurable Mode: A push-button on the rear allows the unit to switch operational modes (such as standard 2-way stereo or 3-way mono setups).
- Flexible I/O: Every input and output channel includes both balanced XLR and 1/4-inch (TRS/TS) jacks, making it easy to integrate into both professional and semi-pro audio racks.
