Built in Japan in 2023, this reinterpretation of one of Gretsch’s rarest classics combines craftsmanship with the iconic sound of two TV Jones Classic Filter’Tron pickups. This beauty is used, but you can hardly tell. There are just a few small spots on the gold hardware, which actually give it a bit of patina and character.
This Gretsch White Penguin features a chambered mahogany body with a maple top (without a center block) for an airy, resonant hollow-body vibe—but without the F-holes. This delivers a piano-like attack on single notes and a full, open, blooming tone when playing chords.
The TV Jones Filter’Trons deliver a clear, focused output with sparkling highs, tight bass, and a defined midrange. They remain extremely articulate when overdriven—from rockabilly twang and indie jangle to vintage pop and stylish jazz. Controls include a 3-way pickup selector, individual volume controls, master volume, and the classic 3-way tone selector.
Glued-in mahogany neck with a comfortable Standard “U” profile, ebony fingerboard with a 12" radius, 22 medium-jumbo frets, Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays, and a scale length of 24.6" (625 mm) for smooth string action. Bridge & Vibrato: Space Control bridge (adjustable string action) paired with a Bigsby B-30 vibrato arm.
The tuning machines are the high-quality Grover Imperial tuners; in addition, this guitar is equipped with a bone nut for stable tuning.
