I'm reluctantly selling my 2011 Lowden F-23 in Red Cedar and Walnut.
This has been a much-loved personal guitar and has travelled around the world with me over the years, so it has acquired some honest playing wear and what I'd describe as a road-worn / well-loved character rather than the pristine appearance of a pampered instrument.
It is, however, a fantastic-playing Lowden. It has a lovely low action, plays extremely well and has the big, rich and responsive F-23 sound you'd expect from a Lowden. It has plenty of volume, warmth and clarity, and is equally happy with fingerstyle, arpeggios, chords or heavier strumming.
Condition
Please study all of the photographs carefully.
The guitar has general cosmetic wear consistent with many years of playing and travelling, including various small marks and signs of use. It is not being sold as a pristine or collector-condition example.
There is also a hole/damage to the rear of the guitar, which is clearly shown in the photographs.
The damage is away from the internal bracing, and the guitar remains stable, plays normally and has no noticeable effect on its sound or playability. There are no issues with the neck or action and the guitar sounds exactly as it should.
Most importantly, I have kept the original pieces of wood that came out of the damaged area. These are included with the guitar and can be seen in the photographs.
This means the damage should be of particular interest to someone who knows their way around acoustic-guitar repair, as the original material is available and a skilled luthier/guitar technician may be able to make a very good repair using the original wood.
I'm deliberately pricing the guitar accordingly to reflect the cosmetic damage and the fact that it is a repair/road-worn example rather than a pristine Lowden.
Included
- Lowden F-23
- Original Lowden/Hiscox flight case
- Original paperwork
- Original pieces of wood removed from the damaged area
This is a genuine, much-loved Lowden with plenty of mojo and character. It has clearly lived a life, but underneath the scars it's still a superb instrument that plays beautifully.
I'm hoping it will go to someone who appreciates the guitar itself rather than someone looking for a flawless example.
Please look carefully at all photographs and feel free to ask any questions before purchasing.
