For sale is a 1988 Yamaha SG1000, made in Japan, serial number SKIN002.

This is an exceptionally striking example of the classic SG1000, finished in a black-and-gold style strongly reminiscent of Masayoshi Takanaka’s “Furikake” aesthetic.

Construction-wise, this remains a proper Yamaha SG1000, featuring set-neck construction, a long neck tenon, original Yamaha humbuckers, sophisticated switching and the solid Japanese build quality associated with this series.

Construction

The SG1000 is one of Yamaha’s most recognizable classic electric guitar designs.

This example features:

  • Mahogany body with maple top
  • Mahogany neck
  • Set-neck construction
  • Long neck tenon
  • Ebony fingerboard
  • 22 frets
  • 628 mm scale length
  • Body, neck and headstock binding
  • Classic Yamaha SG inlays
  • Gold hardware

The substantial body construction, set neck and long tenon are all characteristic features of the higher-end Yamaha SG design philosophy from this era.

Original Yamaha Pickups

The guitar is equipped with two original Yamaha SG humbuckers.

Both pickups carry matching markings:

SG 63.4.20

This corresponds to April 20, 1988, making the pickups fully period-correct for the instrument.

Controls include:

  • 2 x Volume
  • 2 x Tone
  • 3-way pickup selector
  • Yamaha Bi-Sound
  • Direct Circuit

This gives the SG1000 a very broad tonal range, from full humbucker tones to brighter and more articulate settings.

Takanaka / Furikake Style

The most distinctive feature of this particular guitar is its black-and-gold appearance.

The gold rectangular elements across the top are decorative stickers applied on top of the finish. They are not routed into the body and do not represent any structural modification.

Visually, the design is strongly associated with the Yamaha SG guitars connected with Masayoshi Takanaka and the “Furikake” style.

I am not presenting this guitar as an official Takanaka signature model or factory prototype – structurally, it remains a Yamaha SG1000.

Hardware

The guitar is fitted with classic gold Yamaha hardware:

  • Tune-O-Matic-style bridge
  • Stop tailpiece
  • Gold Yamaha tuners
  • Gold pickup covers
  • Gold control hardware

The hardware shows only light, natural surface aging.

For a 1988 instrument, it presents exceptionally well. The finish retains a deep gloss and the body, neck and headstock are extremely clean.

There are no notable dents, chips or significant finish damage.

The fingerboard and frets are also in excellent condition. The gold hardware shows only light, natural surface aging consistent with the guitar’s age.

Overall, this is a remarkably well-preserved example and visually one of the most distinctive SG1000s I have seen.

The guitar is fully functional, professionally prepared and ready to play.
