Paul designed it to push a non-master-volume amp into natural, organic breakup at lower volumes without adding a tonal stamp of its own. The result is an overdrive that sounds like your amp, only more so, and it has been widely copied ever since.The V2 moved the clipping selector from an internal DIP switch to an external three-way toggle, so you can switch between asymmetric and symmetric clipping on the fly. The Bass and Treble knobs are cut controls rather than boosts. Bass works before the clipping stage to tighten the low end as you add gain, and Treble works after it to smooth the top end.
