Taylor 814ce-N Nylon String – Western Red Cedar Top - Tobias Music Special

The Taylor 814ce-N is a sophisticated nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar that combines Taylor’s modern playability and construction with the expressive, warm voice of nylon strings. What makes this particular 814ce-N especially unique is the Western Red Cedar top we chose instead of the standard spruce top.

The cedar top adds an extra layer of warmth, richness and responsiveness, giving this guitar a slightly more traditional classical-guitar character while retaining the clarity, balance and playability that make the Taylor 814ce-N so special.

✅ Why You’ll Love This Guitar

The Western Red Cedar top is the star of this particular guitar. Cedar tends to produce a warmer, softer and more immediately responsive voice than spruce, and it gives this 814ce-N a beautiful richness that works exceptionally well with nylon strings.

It nudges the 814ce-N toward the tonal character of a traditional classical guitar while maintaining Taylor’s comfortable neck, modern ergonomics and acoustic-electric versatility.

And then there’s the Rosewood. The set chosen for this guitar is exceptional. Deep ruby red streaks with chocolatey brown hues. The back of this guitar is really, really nice !

✅ Our Expert Opinion

We have always felt that the Taylor 814ce-N occupies an interesting space between a traditional classical guitar and a modern acoustic guitar. This custom-ordered cedar-top version takes that concept a step further.

The cedar brings more warmth and complexity to the fundamental tone, with a smooth, expressive response that is particularly appealing for fingerstyle playing, classical repertoire, Latin music and players looking for something different from a conventional steel-string acoustic.

✅ Why Buy From Tobias Music

At Tobias Music, we look beyond simply ordering standard models. Our long relationship with Taylor allows us to order guitars with specifications we believe will make them more interesting and musically rewarding.

This 814ce-N with a Western Red Cedar top is a perfect example. We chose the cedar because we felt its warmer, more classical-leaning voice would make an already exceptional nylon-string Taylor even more distinctive.

Every guitar we sell receives the attention you would expect from a longtime Taylor dealer, including professional inspection and setup by our experienced Taylor service technicians.

✅ Tobias Music Insight

This is one of those guitars that makes you stop and listen. The 814ce-N already has a unique voice, but the cedar top gives this particular example a warmer, rounder and more intimate character.

If you love the feel and expressiveness of nylon strings but want something with Taylor’s modern playability and acoustic-electric versatility, this is a particularly compelling—and somewhat rare—version of the 814ce-N.
