Gibson Custom Shop True Historic 1958 Les Paul Reissue 2015 - 2016 - Vintage Lemon Burst
Gibson Custom Shop True Historic 1958 Les Paul Standard — 1 of Only 300 Made
Own a genuine piece of Gibson's modern golden age. This is a True Historic '58 Les Paul Standard (circa 2015) from the short-lived, now-legendary True Historic line — widely regarded as the closest Gibson has ever come to nailing the vintage '58 Burst formula. Only 300 were ever made. This one is 100% original and in excellent condition, complete with its original Lifton-style hardshell case, Certificate of Authenticity, and all hangtags.
Not just another R8
Gibson spared nothing here: chemically recreated period-correct plastics, a double hand-carved deep-dish top, and a thinned nitro lacquer finish, wet-sanded by hand. Every detail of an original '58 Burst has been painstakingly reproduced.
Tonewoods & Build
- Feather-light at just 8 lbs 7 oz
- Two-piece carved flame maple top, hide-glue fit
- One-piece mahogany body
- Mahogany neck, '50s Rounded C profile, long neck tenon
- Bound Indian rosewood fingerboard
Played unplugged, it's alive — punchy bark in the low end, sparkling and round plain strings with real zing, and a richness that lets lead lines cut through with clarity and body.
Pickups
Under the hood sits a set of Gibson's CustomBucker pickups, the pinnacle of the company's decades-long pursuit of the original 1950s "Patent Applied For" tone. Wound with unbalanced coils and left unpotted for period-correct sonic character, and loaded with Alnico III magnets, they deliver the low-to-medium output signature PAF players chase: airy top end, vocal midrange, and a natural compression that responds to how hard you dig in.
This particular set is exceptionally well matched: articulate and touch-sensitive, equally at home cleaned up for jazz voicings or pushed into a cranked amp for rock and blues. The bridge pickup snarls with authority, all bite and edge without turning brittle, while the neck position offers a thick, rounded warmth that stays clear and defined even under heavy gain. Whether you're chasing vintage blues tones, classic rock crunch, or singing lead lines, this pairing covers the ground.
The guitar was professionally set up at Pittsburgh Guitars with 11–48 strings, low action, and precise intonation, ready to play the moment it arrives..
Finish
The gloss Lemon Burst nitro finish shows off deep, three-dimensional figuring in the flame maple top, with little to no visible play wear. The neck's cherry finish and binding are just beginning to show the faintest fade after 11 years — giving this guitar the perfect head start if you want to "player-age" a top-of-the-line Gibson into something truly your own.
