Gibson 1963 J-45 Cherry Sunburst
Do you feel like modern reissues sound just a little too polished, missing that raw, jangly bite you get when you really dig in?
Since its 1942 debut, the J-45 has earned the nickname "the Workhorse" and been loved by countless musicians. Among these, examples from the 1960s have a devoted following for the unique sonic character born from their specific-era specs.
- A Gibson-style rawness from the slot saddle: from 1960 onward, the previously optional adjustable saddle became standard, but this example has been fitted with a slot saddle instead. The bridge has also been replaced with ebony to accommodate the saddle swap.
- The benefit of a regular neck: this is a rare year that still carries the standard roughly 43mm nut width, giving your left hand a stable, comfortable grip while producing a powerful, focused low end and rich body resonance.
- Vibrant cherry sunburst: an early cherry sunburst finish that became standard around 1962, still showing beautiful, rich red tones that belie its roughly 60 years of age.
