PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Black Gold Burst 2023 – PLEK’d, SD ’59s, 8-Way Wiring, Upgraded
This is an unusually special example of the PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow: a lightweight 7 lb 4 oz instrument with a beautifully figured Black Gold Burst top, professional Sweetwater PLEK work, and extensive upgrades throughout.
These Custom 22 Semi-Hollow models are becoming increasingly difficult to find, and this one has been transformed well beyond stock specification. The goal of the upgrades was not simply to replace parts, but to create a guitar with the refinement, versatility and feel of a much more expensive PRS while retaining the resonance and character of the semi-hollow SE platform.
The result is a resonant, comfortable semi-hollow guitar with excellent playability and an unusually broad range of tones.

Custom 8-Voice Electronics
The electronics are where this guitar really separates itself from a standard Custom 22.
The 5-way Super Switch works together with the push/pull control to provide eight distinct pickup combinations, allowing the guitar to move from full PAF-style humbucker tones to clearer PRS-inspired tapped sounds and combinations of the two.
Available voices include:
- Neck humbucker
- Neck tapped
- Neck humbucker + tapped bridge
- Tapped neck + bridge humbucker
- Neck humbucker + bridge humbucker
- Tapped neck + tapped bridge
- Bridge humbucker
- Bridge tapped
The push/pull effectively inverts the pickup mode available in the selected switch position, making the additional sounds easy to access without covering the guitar in extra switches.
It can go from warm, woody semi-hollow neck tones to articulate cleans, convincing dual-pickup sounds and classic bridge humbucker tones very quickly.
Seymour Duncan ’59 Pickups
The Duncan ’59 set is an excellent match for this guitar. They bring a more traditional PAF-inspired character than the original electronics while still retaining the clarity and articulation that work so well with a PRS-style instrument.
Combined with the semi-hollow construction, the guitar has a great balance of warmth, resonance, clarity and attack.
The tapped sounds also make this far more versatile than a conventional HH semi-hollow.
Playability
The guitar was PLEK’d by Sweetwater, giving it an exceptionally consistent playing surface and excellent fretwork.
The upgraded tremolo feels smooth and substantial, while the brass block and saddles make the entire bridge assembly feel considerably more substantial than the original hardware. The pop-in arm is also much nicer to use than a traditional threaded tremolo arm and has adjustable tension.
The locking tuners make restringing simple and help complete what is essentially a thoroughly upgraded player’s PRS.
Weight: 7 lb 4 oz
The relatively light weight is a particularly nice match for the semi-hollow construction. The guitar feels lively and resonant in the hands while remaining extremely comfortable for longer playing sessions.
Condition
The guitar has been very well cared for and presents beautifully. The Black Gold Burst finish and figured maple top are particularly striking in person, especially as the flame changes under different lighting.

This is not simply a stock SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow with a pickup swap—it has been carefully developed into a highly versatile, extremely playable instrument with premium electronics, upgraded hardware and professional fretwork.
I’m thinning my collection, which is the only reason I’m offering it for sale.
