Gretsch G6128T-TVTAFWO Duo Jet FSR Flame Top

Up for sale is my 2012 Gretsch G6128T-TVTAFWO Duo Jet FSR Flame Top in the beautiful and relatively uncommon Western Orange finish.

This is a Professional Collection, Japanese-made Factory Special Run version of the Duo Jet, featuring a highly figured flame maple top, chambered mahogany construction, factory TV Jones Classic pickups, ebony fingerboard, Tru-Arc bridge, and Bigsby B3C vibrato.

Although Gretsch traditionally categorizes the Duo Jet as a solid-body guitar, this model actually uses a chambered mahogany body beneath the arched maple top, giving it a lively, resonant character that sits somewhere between a traditional solidbody and a semi-hollow guitar.

Upgrades

The original vintage-style open-back tuners have been upgraded to Gotoh locking tuners. This is a very worthwhile functional upgrade, especially on a Bigsby-equipped guitar, making string changes considerably easier while helping with tuning stability.

Condition

The guitar has been played and does show normal signs of use consistent with its age, but overall it has been well cared for.

There is one notable scratch on the side of the body, which I have photographed closely and under lighting that makes it easier to see. Because of the highly reflective gloss finish, the close-up photograph emphasizes it more than it normally appears. Under typical room lighting and normal viewing angles, the scratch is considerably less noticeable.

Aside from this scratch, there are no significant dents, paint chips, or other major cosmetic damage. Please review the photos carefully for the best representation of its condition.

The guitar includes its original Gretsch G6238 Deluxe hardshell case. The case shows normal exterior wear from age and use, but it remains fully functional and is not ripped, broken, or dented. The interior is also in good usable condition.

The original specification called for vintage-style open-back tuners; the Gotoh locking tuners on this guitar are an aftermarket upgrade.

Tone and Playability

What has always stood out to me about this guitar is how versatile it is.

I have personally used it for jazz, worship music, and rock, and it fits comfortably into all of those styles. The chambered mahogany body gives it warmth and resonance, while the maple top keeps the attack articulate and defined. The TV Jones Classics have that unmistakable Filter’Tron-style clarity: open and detailed when played clean, but with plenty of bite and authority when pushed into overdrive.

It can produce beautiful, articulate cleans for jazz or ambient worship tones, but it also has enough punch and character for rock. The tone of this guitar really is difficult to mistake for anything else — it has that unmistakable Gretsch voice.

The shorter 24.6" scale also gives the guitar a comfortable feel, while the ebony fingerboard contributes to the fast response and crisp note definition.

This is a particularly attractive version of the Duo Jet because you get the traditional Gretsch construction and feel along with the flame maple top and factory TV Jones pickups, rather than the more common standard G6128T configuration.
