This Sterling by Music Man Ray4 SUB has been upgraded with a new Aguilar 4M pickup and Aguilar OBP-3SK/PP preamp. This bass packs a huge sonic punch that rivals any Sterling or Ernie Ball Sting Ray at a fraction of the price!
The cost of the upgrades alone almost cost as much as the bass itself at a value of $700 and is worth every penny:
- Aguilar 4M pickup = $150
- Aguilar OBP-3SK/PP = $180
There are several YouTube videos that demonstrate the sound of these upgrades. I encourage you to listen to them for yourself. The Aguilar pickup provides the sound of an Alnico V magnet verses a ceramic magnet. The preamp is very powerful and expands the preamp from a 2 band eq (bass & treble) to a 3 band eq by adding a mid control while also adding a push/pull for 2 different output frequencies (400hz & 800hz).
The bass is in excellent condition and has been well taken care of with no major blemishes or scratches. The bass is very comfortable to play with a neck profile that resembles a jazz style neck. The transparent matte finish adds a nice visual appeal to a great sounding and playing bass. To make the deal even sweeter I’ll throw in the original pickup and preamp.
