This 2009 Music Man Ball Family Reserve (BFR) signature model by Toto lead guitarist Steve Lukather is among the crème de la crème that the American luxury guitar manufacturer Music Man has to offer. As part of the BFR series, small, limited runs of select instruments are crafted using the finest tonewoods, high-quality hardware, and meticulous craftsmanship; these models can be seen as Music Man’s counterpart to PRS’s “Private Stock” instruments.

The Luke was developed in close collaboration with Steve Lukather, lead guitarist of the American rock band Toto, and is considered a milestone in the history of Music Man signature models. It combines the highest level of craftsmanship with practical features and an unmistakable sound.

This beautiful 2009 Luke with a quilted top features an extremely resonant alder body, including an inlaid mahogany soundblock for even creamier sustain, which—thanks to its low total weight of just 3.48kg—also promises excellent playability even during longer sessions. The impressively figured, select bird’s-eye maple neck with a bolt-on construction and a hand-waxed and oiled finish ensures an incredibly smooth playing feel. The rosewood fretboard, featuring 22 low-profile wide frets, pearl dot inlays, and a mother-of-pearl BFR inlay at the 12th fret, offers outstanding playability across the entire fretboard, and even access to the highest registers is effortless thanks to the smoothly tapered neck-to-body transition (Sculpted Neck Joint).

This guitar is in excellent condition and is technically flawless. Visually, there is only occasional fine superficial wear, if any at all (see photos). The frets are nearly flawless.
