Arcano MIDI NES Chiptune Synth II — 8-Bit Nintendo Sound Module on Wood Base
Condition: Used – Excellent
Description:
Arcano MIDI NES Chiptune Synth (Rev II) by Arcano Systems — an AVR-based MIDI synthesizer that faithfully recreates the classic sound of the Nintendo Entertainment System's audio hardware. Connect any MIDI keyboard or sequencer with a standard 5-pin DIN out and play authentic NES-style chiptunes live: classic pulse waves, that unmistakable 4-bit triangle bass, and lo-fi 8-bit character straight out of the 1985 game library.
Unlike most microcontroller synths that squeeze scratchy audio out of PWM pins, the Arcano uses a dedicated DAC chip for a clean, clear output signal. Patch selection via the two buttons with a 7-segment LED display, 3.5mm audio output, and mini-USB for power. The 6-pin AVR programming header is exposed, so tinkerers can flash the ATmega328 with custom waveforms, envelopes, and samples.
This one is mounted on a handsome stained solid-wood base — sits nicely on a desk next to your controller, no case needed.
Fully functional and tested — photos show it powered up and running. Please see photos for cosmetic condition.
Long discontinued and originally direct from the maker; a fun, hackable piece of chiptune history.
Please note: MIDI is via 5-pin DIN only (USB connector is power only, not MIDI-over-USB). Power cable and MIDI controller not included.
