Vintage 1960s Made-in-Japan short-scale electric bass in tri-tone brown sunburst — one of the Kawai/Teisco-family instruments built in Japan during the 1960s and badged under many names including Teisco, Kent, St. George, Norma, Kawai, Rexina, Conrad, and Apollo. Offset double-cutaway body with bolt-on short-scale neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays, two chrome-covered single-coil pickups with adjustable pole pieces, two rocker pickup selector switches, volume and tone controls, string-length-adjustable bridge with original chrome cover and foam mute, and 4-on-a-side sealed tuners with oversized chrome buttons.

No headstock badge or neck plate stamp is present, which is completely typical for these — the same instruments left the factory under whichever importer’s name was on the order. Comes with a vintage hardshell case (red plush interior).

Condition: honest vintage wear throughout — light finish scratches and dings, some plating wear on the bridge cover, and grime buildup on the bridge foam mute. A previous owner’s name is hand-written on the underside of the bridge cover (see photos) — cosmetic only, no known provenance. Neck appears straight. Recommend a fresh set of strings and a setup.

These short-scale MIJ basses have a devoted following for their punchy, distinctive single-coil voice and comfortable short-scale feel — a genuinely fun player and a collectible piece of 1960s Japanese guitar history.

Sold as-is per shop policy — no returns. Please review all photos carefully before purchasing.
