1941 Gibson EH-150 Lap Steel Guitar – Pre-War – Case & Tonebar

1941 Gibson EH-150 Lap Steel Guitar – Vintage Pre-War Gibson – Black – Case & Tonebar

This 1941 Gibson EH-150 is a remarkable example of Gibson's early pre-war lap steel instruments and a highly desirable piece of American musical history. Originally designed as the companion instrument to Gibson's EH-150 amplifier, the EH-150 has become a sought-after collector's piece thanks to its excellent construction, distinctive styling, and legendary electronics.

This example features the classic black finish, traditional Gibson script logo, and an ornate mother-of-pearl fleur-de-lis inlay positioned beneath the logo.

One of the most interesting features of this instrument is its diagonally mounted oblong pickup, a design Gibson began using around November 1939. The angled pickup was intended to provide a broader tonal response, giving the bass strings a warmer and thicker character while maintaining clarity and brightness on the treble strings.

The pickup is covered by the highly distinctive faux-tortoiseshell celluloid cover, which is particularly noteworthy on surviving examples. These covers are known to be fragile and susceptible to cracking and warping over the decades, making an intact example especially desirable to collectors.
