Gretsch G2420T Streamliner w/ Lindy Fralin Twangmaster — Hollow Body Bigsby, Walnut Stain 2020
The neck pickup has been replaced with a Lindy Fralin Twangmaster. The original factory neck pickup is not included. Details below.
2020 Gretsch G2420T Streamliner hollowbody in Walnut Stain with the Bigsby-licensed B60 vibrato tailpiece. Laminated maple body, 16" lower bout, nato neck, 24.75" scale, 12" radius fingerboard with pearloid block inlays, 22 medium jumbo frets, 1.6875" nut, Adjusto-Matic bridge on a wooden base, aged white binding. Four controls: individual volume for each pickup, master volume, master tone.
The modification. The neck position holds a Lindy Fralin Twangmaster. It is a humbucker-sized, hum-cancelling pickup that Fralin voices to sound like a Fender single coil, not like a Gretsch Filter'Tron. Against the stock Broad'Tron it replaced, that means brighter and more articulate with Fender-style snap, instead of the thicker, hotter humbucker voice the guitar shipped with. If a classic Gretsch tone is specifically what you are after, this is not that pickup, and swapping it back is a straightforward soldered job. The bridge pickup is the original factory Broad'Tron with its original cover. Both are visible in the photos.
This was a soldered swap only. No routing, no drilling, nothing irreversible. I no longer have the original neck pickup, so returning the guitar to stock would mean sourcing a replacement. Used ones appear on Reverb regularly in the $35 to $50 range. The price accounts for this.
Condition. No dings, dents, finish cracks, or buckle rash. No visible fret wear. The fretboard was oiled and the guitar wiped down regularly.
Three cosmetic issues, all photographed:
The pickguard is visibly scratched from normal playing. This is surface wear only, and pickguards are inexpensive to replace.
There is a small whitish mark in one corner of the Fralin's nickel cover, similar in appearance to a water stain (top-left corner of it in the photo). It does not come off with cleaning, so it appears to be in the plating rather than on it. Cosmetic only, no effect on function.
There are some scratches on the headstock. Surface level, no chips or cracks in the finish and nothing structural.
Playability. Action and intonation are set and it plays clean with no buzz at normal attack. The high E will buzz if you dig in very hard. Electronics are quiet, the Bigsby returns to pitch, and there are no structural issues with the body or neck joint.
Strings are about two years old with very little playing time on them.
A video of the guitar is linked on this listing to show condition.
Includes a free 18' 1/4" instrument cable. Ships with strings slackened, the Bigsby arm padded and secured so it cannot move against the top, and the headstock and neck supported.
Questions welcome.
