The StingRay earned its reputation through a sound that is powerful, immediate and remarkably easy to recognize in a mix. The StingRay Special 5 extends that formula into 5-string territory, providing a deep, authoritative low B while maintaining the definition and attack players expect from a Music Man. The single neodymium humbucker delivers plenty of output and clarity, while the 18-volt active preamp provides exceptional clean headroom and extensive control over the instrument's voice.

The StingRay Special 5 gives you Volume, Treble, Mid and Bass controls, allowing substantial tonal adjustment without making the instrument complicated to operate. A 3-way lever selector provides additional tonal options from the single-humbucker configuration. From deep supportive bass tones to aggressive slap sounds and cutting rock tones, the StingRay Special 5 can cover an enormous amount of musical territory while retaining its unmistakable Music Man character.

Music Man's select roasted maple neck is paired with 22 high-profile wide stainless-steel frets, an 11" fingerboard radius and a 34" scale length. The sculpted 5-bolt neck joint provides comfortable access to the upper frets, while refined body contours and lightweight tuning machines improve balance and playing comfort. These aren't changes made simply to modernize the spec sheet—they're practical refinements that make the StingRay Special easier and more comfortable to play on long rehearsals, recording sessions and gigs.

There's something particularly right about a StingRay in Black. The finish lets the unmistakable StingRay body shape, oversized pickguard and iconic Music Man design do the talking. It's clean, understated and unlikely to ever look dated.

At Northeast Music Center, we believe the best instruments are the ones that make you want to play the moment you pick them up. The StingRay Special 5 has that quality. Its combination of an authoritative low B, powerful neodymium pickup, active EQ, roasted maple neck and unmistakable StingRay feel makes it equally at home on stage, in the studio or simply plugged into your favorite bass amp at home.
