Hornet #397 is brand new, built in December 2019 and shown
at NAMM 2020.
I have been looking at and fixing a lot of vintage import
guitars recently and they have been rubbing off on my design sensibility. I
enjoy the quirky lines and colorful mix of shapes and forms from those early
instruments and am bringing that kind of fun into my work, the Hornet being a
good example of the influence.
The body on this guitar is Spanish cedar with a durable acrylic sea foam green and Danish oil finish, and a white marble pick guard with
custom aluminum control plate. The neck is one-piece maple with a maple
fretboard: 24-3/4” scale / 12” radius and 1-11/16” Delrin nut with 24 Jescar
47104 frets and Hipshot locking tuners. The carve is a medium C- it is easy and
comfortable.
I gave this Hornet a matched pair of my handwound Type13SC
single coil “silver foils” authentic to the 60’s DeArmond-Rowe gold foils in
their clarity and sizzle when pushed. The Jag-style trem is matched with
Wilkinson roller bridge making for a true lock-down and stable system
This is a beautiful and fantastic playing and sounding
instrument, and wicked stylish!
