Classic Marshall sound - four EL34 output tubes driven by a cascaded pre-amp with the master volume to keep everything cooking without destroying the building. This amp revolutionised rock music when it was released in 1975 and became the JCM800 in the early 80s. The JMP 2203 is widely regarded as the blueprint for high-gain rock and metal tones and has underpinned the sound of vast numbers of players from Angus Young to Randy Rhoads and from Jeff Beck to James Hetfield … the list is too long to elaborate here.

This example is a 1978 100w ‘Mk 2. Master model lead’ 2203 amp head in exceptionally clean condition. The original Drake transformers are all present and it is in its original case (chassis and case have matching serial numbers). The external condition is extremely good and it is largely original inside except for a good re-cap and one or two minor replacements where needed (including at least one input jack). All the work has used correct parts and is extremely well executed.

Needless to say, this sounds the business, especially through the matching 1982a cab that it seems to have spent its entire life paired with (see separate auction). I would prefer to keep these old friends together, if possible, and so I’m open to sensible offers if you want a half-stack.

Either way, this is a rare opportunity to own an unmodified, honest and very clean example of these legendary Marshall amps in unusually good cosmetic and electrical condition. As a bonus, it also has its original slip cover which shows some evidence of its age, of course, but is also in surprisingly good condition.

Message me if you would like to visit and try this amp. For serious buyers I will reserve the amp so you don’t make a wasted trip. Alternatively, I’m always happy to do a video call if you want to check it out that way.

Shipping on this is as specified. Alternatively, I can deliver within much of southern England (message me for a quote) or you are welcome to collect in person.
