About DryBell Effects

DryBell's story is something we always like to share as a reminder that every one of you should follow your dreams.

It was the year 1996 when Zvonch started creating something that will become his obsession over the years. At first, he built and serviced amplifiers and guitar pedals for himself and friends. The results were great, many people were satisfied and the idea was born - to start his own brand, called DryBell.

The name came out as a wordplay based on his first and last name. It was a tough start. Beside trying to start his own brand in a very small Croatian market, at the same time he also had a full-time job in a big Croatian company „Končar“ working as an engineer designing PCBs for trains, power plants and protection systems. The whole thing was going pretty slow because after a day of working on his primary job, there remained a very little of daily free time, but the idea to have his own brand was still going strong and he didn't give up.

In the summer of 2009, a friend asked him to build him a small but fully functional photocell based Univibe pedal.

At first, it sounded like a pretty straightforward task, until the 1st prototype, when he discovered the nature of the photocells. He started to study 'em and after MANY hours, days, weeks, months he managed to create something that soon will be regarded as one of the best Univibe effects ever created. It was the birth of the Vibe Machine V-1.

The first batch of those pedals was quickly sold to friends who immediately spread the word all over the World and the magic has started.

Many positive reviews, audio & video demos and comments, resulted in great sales and DryBell began to grow. At first with a little help from his family & friends who became his employees later on..

The DryBell team read and listened to every word and suggestion written regarding the Vibe Machine and the next logical step was to build an even better Vibe Machine. A lot of new and never before seen features in a Univibe pedal were implemented in the Vibe Machine V-2, which became even a bigger hit than its predecessor.

In the autumn of 2018, a new pedal "Unit67" was released. It is a compact and fully analog device that has a highly versatile EQ set including a „Rangemaster-like“ mid control, a boost and an 1176 type of compressor. The Unit 67 drew attention of many pedal aficionados and received many positive reviews from the moment it hit the market.

Right in the middle of the COVID‑19 pandemic, on June 3rd 2020, The Engine was born. It’s a highly versatile and fully Analog foundation preamp pedal with distinct voicing inspired by 60’s British classic amps and sounds. It covers all the classic overdriven tones on a variety of amps and can be pushed even more with our take on the classic Range(master) and a powerful EQ/Boost section. The initial reactions from all over the World were incredible and The Engine’s popularity is growing day by day.

In 2021 we wanted to find a special way to celebrate our upcoming 10 Year Anniversary and we decided to pull out our Vibe Machine breadboard. The result was an exceptional sounding Vibe Machine V-3, a bit different from the previous versions with its own unique colorful magic, sound, character and depth. No matter if it is V-1, 2 or 3, people love our Vibe Machine, each has its own beautiful thing going on and over the past 10 years we've lost count of how many wonderful reviews we've received.

At the same time we have started working on our brand new pedal called the Module 4 - our highly versatile take on a classic vintage compressor - Dan Armstrong's Orange Squeezer from the ‘70s. In essence, the Orange Squeezer's tonal uniqueness in terms of pick-attack controlled EQ combined with a spongy organic compression is the key reason for the iconic status gained among many artists throughout guitar history. The Module 4 can be transformed to a standard 'Full Frequency range' compressor by pushing the Orange button. Module 4's two compression flavors are easily distinguishable. Orange brings a warm, vintage sound and feel while 'Full Frequency range' brings a more modern, brighter, clearer tone. The pedal is equipped with several useful, colorful and practical options, all packed into the new DryBell enclosure line with our custom silent switching system.
