Over this past year, Fender has been steadily releasing models from the brand-new Parallel Universe series that the company announced at the NAMM show back in January. Today, rounding out a series that includes entries like the Jazz-Tele hybrid and Deluxe Thinline Super Tele, is the first bass entry to the series: the '51 Telecaster PJ Bass.
Fender looked to the past when designing the '51 Telecaster PJ Bass, carrying over classic elements like a slab body with a single-ply pickguard and the Telecaster-style headstock, complete with the vintage spaghetti logo. The neck is based on a '63 P Bass and features a comfortable 9.5-inch fingerboard radius, perfect for quick-handed funk bassists like James Jamerson.
Pickup-wise, the '51 Tele PJ Bass is outfitted with a '60s P Bass split-coil in the middle position, paired with a complementary '60s Jazz Bass single-coil in the bridge. It also features a vintage HiMass bridge and smooth nitrocellulose lacquer finish.
