Arturia Releases the DrumBrute Impact, an Aggressive, Compact Drum Machine

Arturia's Brute series of hardware synths and drum machines welcomes a new little brother to its family.

The DrumBrute Impact, released today, is a pared-down take on the company's DrumBrute drum machine. Like the MicroBrute—the company's smaller, less expensive alternative to the MiniBrute—the DrumBrute Impact will retail for $299 USD. But the new drum machine also packs some added punch into its small chassis.

The DrumBrute Impact swaps the original DrumBrute's resonant filter for a Distortion knob—allowing users to take their beats to aggressive, overdriven territory. The Impact fits 10 instruments onto its eight performance pads (with the high/low toms and open/closed hats sharing a pad, respectively), each with a unique set of controls and a Color setting to bring extra flair.

In its release, Arturia describes the 10 sounds as:

  • Kick: pounding bass drum with nice attack transients and variable pitch and decay.
  • Snare 1: a big-bodied snare with great, editable snap and decay.
  • Snare 2: a trashy snare with a hint of clap, with adjustable tone and decay.
  • Tom High: simple but powerful high tom with sweepable pitch.
  • Tom Low: pants-shaking low tom that can get so low you could use it as a 2nd kick.
  • Cymbal: zingy, metallic crash with adjustable decay.
  • Cowbell: a simple but effective percussive cowbell.
  • Closed Hat: hard-hitting hat with variable tone that also effects the Open Hat.
  • Open Hat: open up the hat sound with changeable decay with a mute controlled by the Closed Hat.
  • FM Drum: a percussive synth voice with adjustable carrier pitch, decay, FM amount, and mod pitch.

In addition to the main outlets, there are four individual instrument outs to send out the kick, snares, hi-hats, or FM drum separately, if desired. The groovebox also features 64-step sequencer with a Looper function for easy repeats, a Roller function to introduce fills, and Randomness to add unpredictability to your patterns.
