The StingRay Sound

Since its introduction in 1976, the StingRay has become one of the defining sounds of the electric bass.

The heart of this StingRay Special is its Music Man humbucking pickup with powerful neodymium magnets. It delivers the immediate attack, definition and authority players expect from a StingRay while offering enough versatility to move well beyond the aggressive tones for which the model is famous.

Dig in and it responds with unmistakable StingRay punch. Back off and reshape the EQ and you'll find warm, full-bodied sounds that sit beautifully in a mix.

18-Volt Active Electronics

The StingRay Special's 18-volt 3-band active preamp provides plenty of clean headroom and tremendous control over your sound.

A simple four-knob layout gives you:

Volume
Treble
Midrange
Bass

Small adjustments can make a significant difference, allowing you to move from warm vintage-inspired tones to articulate modern bass sounds without ever losing the fundamental character of the instrument.

It's powerful without being complicated.

Modernized Where It Matters

The StingRay Special retains the visual identity that made the original StingRay unmistakable—the oval pickguard, 3+1 headstock configuration and single Music Man humbucker—but underneath the familiar exterior are thoughtful modern refinements.

The select roasted maple neck features 22 high-profile, wide stainless-steel frets and a comfortable 11" fingerboard radius.

Music Man's sculpted 5-bolt neck joint improves access to the upper register, while refined body contours make the bass more comfortable whether you're sitting or standing.

Lightweight Music Man tuning machines also improve the overall balance of the instrument and reduce unnecessary weight at the headstock.

Classic Natural

There's something particularly right about a StingRay in a natural finish.

Classic Natural lets the character of the body wood become part of the appearance of the instrument and pairs beautifully with the roasted maple neck and unmistakable StingRay silhouette.

It's clean, traditional and unmistakably Music Man.

Made in California

The StingRay Special is built by Ernie Ball Music Man in San Luis Obispo, California, with the level of workmanship expected from the company's flagship bass.

This isn't simply a recreation of a vintage design. It's Music Man's modern interpretation of the StingRay—retaining the character that made the original important while improving comfort, balance, electronics and playability for today's player.

The Northeast Music Center Difference

At Northeast Music Center, we appreciate instruments that have developed their reputation because musicians actually use them. The StingRay belongs firmly in that category.

This Classic Natural StingRay Special offers the unmistakable sound and visual identity of a Music Man StingRay with the refinements that make the current Special such a serious player's instrument.

Whether you're playing rock, funk, pop, country, R&B, fusion or anything that demands a bass tone with authority and definition, the StingRay Special has earned its place as one of the standards.

This exact bass is available now at Northeast Music Center and includes a Mono Gig Bag.
