Taylor 254ce Plus Acoustic/Electric 12-String Guitar! Guitar Comes with Taylor Aerocase!

There is nothing quite like the sound of a great 12-string acoustic.

The shimmer, natural chorus and octave-rich dimension can transform even the simplest chord progression into something completely different. The challenge has always been finding a 12-string that delivers that sound without feeling like work to play.

The Taylor 254ce Plus was built to solve that problem.

Featuring a solid torrefied spruce top, layered Indian rosewood back and sides, Grand Auditorium body, C-Class bracing and Taylor's famously comfortable neck design, the 254ce Plus delivers the expansive voice players want from a 12-string with a playing experience that feels remarkably approachable.

Add Taylor ES2 electronics and an included AeroCase, and this becomes much more than an occasional specialty instrument. It's a 12-string designed to be played.

At Northeast Music Center, that's exactly why we like the 254ce Plus: it makes one of the most inspiring sounds in the acoustic-guitar world considerably easier to live with.

THE SOUND THAT ONLY A 12-STRING CAN MAKE

A 12-string doesn't simply sound like a bigger six-string.

Each of the six primary strings is paired with another string—typically an octave higher on the lower courses and in unison on the upper courses—creating the unmistakable shimmer, movement and harmonic complexity associated with a great 12-string.

Play an open chord and the sound seems to expand around you.

Arpeggios become more dimensional.

Simple rhythm parts gain texture.

Songwriting ideas that feel familiar on a six-string can suddenly head somewhere completely different.

That's why a 12-string can be such a valuable addition even for a guitarist who already owns several excellent acoustics.

SOLID TORREFIED SPRUCE

The 254ce Plus starts with a solid torrefied spruce top, an excellent choice for the demands of a 12-string.

Spruce provides the clarity and projection needed to keep twelve strings articulate rather than congested, while Taylor's torrefaction process introduces additional warmth and played-in character.

That balance is particularly important here.

A 12-string produces enormous harmonic information. The guitar needs enough definition to keep those frequencies separated while still sounding musical and full.

The torrefied spruce top gives the 254ce Plus that combination of projection, clarity and warmth.

LAYERED INDIAN ROSEWOOD

Taylor pairs the solid spruce soundboard with layered Indian rosewood back and sides.

The rosewood exterior provides the traditional appearance many players associate with premium acoustic guitars, while layered construction adds stability and durability—valuable qualities for an instrument carrying the additional string tension inherent to a 12-string design.

The result is a guitar with a classic acoustic appearance that's also engineered for real-world use.

GRAND AUDITORIUM — A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO THE 12-STRING

Taylor's choice of its Grand Auditorium body is one of the reasons the 254ce Plus is so appealing.

Rather than making the guitar unnecessarily large or cumbersome, the Grand Auditorium provides a comfortable body profile while still delivering the projection and tonal breadth needed for a convincing 12-string voice.

The narrower waist sits naturally against the player, while the Venetian cutaway provides comfortable access farther up the fingerboard.

This makes the 254ce Plus useful for much more than open-position strumming.

Fingerpicked passages, alternate voicings and melodic work can all take advantage of the enormous harmonic palette twelve strings provide.

C-CLASS BRACING

Taylor voices the 254ce Plus with C-Class bracing, helping enhance volume, sustain and low-frequency response while preserving the definition necessary for a 12-string.

That clarity matters.

With twelve strings vibrating simultaneously, poor definition can quickly turn richness into clutter.

The 254ce Plus is designed to keep the octave courses distinct enough to preserve that signature shimmer while still allowing chords to sound full and cohesive.

A 12-STRING THAT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE A CHORE

This may be the most important part of the guitar.

Historically, some 12-strings have earned reputations for being physically demanding instruments.

Taylor approaches the problem differently.

The Neo-Tropical mahogany neck, Standard Carve profile, 25.5" scale length and 1-7/8" nut width provide the additional string spacing a 12-string needs without making the neck feel unnecessarily cumbersome.

For a guitarist accustomed to a conventional six-string acoustic, the transition feels surprisingly natural.

And that matters because the best 12-string isn't simply the one with the biggest sound.

It's the one you actually want to play.

TAYLOR EXPRESSION SYSTEM 2

The 254ce Plus is fully equipped for live performance with Taylor's Expression System 2 electronics.

The behind-the-saddle pickup design captures the guitar's dynamic response and allows that unmistakable 12-string character to become part of a live or amplified arrangement.

Plug into an acoustic amplifier or PA and the 254ce Plus can move directly from songwriting and rehearsal into performance.

For solo musicians in particular, a 12-string can create an enormous amount of sonic space without adding another instrument to the arrangement.

THE PLUS ADVANTAGE — TAYLOR AEROCASE

As a Plus model, the 254ce includes Taylor's AeroCase.

This is a meaningful upgrade for an instrument you're likely to transport.

The AeroCase is designed to provide substantially more structure and protection than a conventional soft gig bag while remaining considerably lighter and easier to carry than a traditional wooden hardshell case.

For rehearsals, performances, lessons or simply transporting the guitar safely, it's exactly the kind of case that complements the working-musician personality of the 254ce Plus.

WHY THE 254ce PLUS MATTERS

A 12-string is rarely the first acoustic guitar someone buys.

But it can easily become one of the most inspiring.

The 254ce Plus gives a player access to an entirely different musical vocabulary without demanding the physical compromises historically associated with some 12-string designs.

Use it to add dimension behind a vocal.

Double a six-string part in the studio.

Build shimmering open-chord arrangements.

Explore fingerstyle textures.

Or simply pick it up when your normal six-string isn't inspiring the next idea.

A good 12-string doesn't duplicate something already in your collection.

It gives you a sound your other guitars simply cannot produce.

THE NORTHEAST MUSIC CENTER PERSPECTIVE

At Northeast Music Center, we think the best specialty instruments are the ones that stop feeling like specialty instruments once you own them.

That's the opportunity with the Taylor 254ce Plus.

Its comfortable neck, Grand Auditorium body, torrefied spruce top and C-Class bracing make it approachable enough to become part of your regular playing rather than a guitar that spends most of its life inside the case.

And when it's time to perform, the ES2 electronics and included AeroCase make the transition from home to stage straightforward.

As an authorized Taylor dealer, Northeast Music Center is here to help you compare Taylor 12-string models, answer setup and string questions, and find the instrument that fits the way you actually play.

The Taylor 254ce Plus 12-String is available now from Northeast Music Center and includes its Taylor AeroCase.
