Taylor 312ce 12-Fret Grand Concert Acoustic/Electric Guitar! Guitar Comes with Taylor Hardshell Case!
Some guitars impress you with size and power. Others win you over by making everything feel easier.
The Taylor 312ce 12-Fret belongs firmly in the second category.
Built around Taylor's compact Grand Concert body, the 312ce 12-Fret combines a solid Sitka spruce top, solid sapele back and sides, V-Class bracing and a 24-7/8" short scale with a 12-fret neck configuration that brings the player into a remarkably comfortable relationship with the instrument.
The result is a professional-level Taylor with a warm, articulate voice, relaxed fretting feel and exceptional responsiveness—especially appealing to fingerstyle players, singer-songwriters and anyone who appreciates a more intimate acoustic guitar.
At Northeast Music Center, we think the 312ce 12-Fret represents something particularly important in the Taylor lineup: proof that a guitar doesn't have to be physically large to feel musically substantial.

WHY 12 FRETS MATTER
The defining feature of this guitar isn't cosmetic.
It's architectural.
On a traditional 14-fret acoustic, the neck meets the body at the 14th fret. On the 312ce 12-Fret, that relationship moves to the 12th fret.
That change helps create a different relationship between the neck, bridge and body while also positioning the guitar slightly differently against the player.
Combine that configuration with the 24-7/8" scale length, and the result is a softer, more relaxed feel under the fretting hand.
Chords require less effort.
String bends feel more forgiving.
Fingerstyle passages become fluid.
And the compact Grand Concert body sits naturally against the player rather than demanding that the player accommodate the guitar.
This isn't simply about making the instrument “easier.”
It's about removing physical distractions between the player and the music.
SOLID SITKA SPRUCE + SOLID SAPELE
The 312ce 12-Fret is an all-solid-wood Taylor, pairing Sitka spruce with solid sapele back and sides.
Sitka spruce remains one of the great acoustic soundboard woods because of its combination of clarity, projection and dynamic range. It can respond delicately to a light fingerstyle touch while retaining enough headroom when the player digs in.
Sapele brings a complementary personality to the back and sides.
Its voice tends to emphasize a strong fundamental with a warm, woody midrange and controlled harmonic complexity.
Together, the combination produces a guitar that sounds clear without being sterile, warm without becoming muddy and articulate without becoming overly bright.
That tonal balance is one of the reasons this guitar works so beautifully for fingerstyle playing and recording.
GRAND CONCERT — SMALLER BODY, SERIOUS VOICE
Taylor's Grand Concert body is intentionally compact.
The smaller dimensions create a comfortable, intimate playing position while producing a focused acoustic voice with excellent articulation and touch sensitivity.
That makes the 312ce 12-Fret especially responsive to the player's hands.
Play gently and the guitar responds.
Add more attack and it follows.
Move from chords into individual notes and the instrument retains separation and definition.
For players who use dynamics as part of their technique, that responsiveness can become addictive.
And because the Grand Concert occupies a more controlled sonic space than a larger-bodied acoustic, it can also sit beautifully in a recording or ensemble mix without fighting for room.
V-CLASS BRACING
Inside the 312ce 12-Fret is Taylor's V-Class bracing
The design helps the soundboard balance two qualities that traditionally work against one another: flexibility for volume and rigidity for sustain.
For the player, the engineering matters less than what happens when the strings start moving.
Notes sustain with authority.
Chords retain definition.
The guitar responds dynamically.
And the compact Grand Concert body produces considerably more musical presence than its dimensions might suggest.
On a guitar designed around nuance and touch, those qualities are especially valuable.
THE 24-7/8" SHORT SCALE
Scale length is one of those specifications that doesn't look particularly exciting on paper—until you actually play the guitar.
The 24-7/8" scale length contributes to the relaxed character of the 312ce 12-Fret.
Compared with Taylor's standard 25.5" scale, the shorter scale produces slightly lower perceived string tension.
For players with smaller hands, musicians who prefer a softer feel, or anyone spending hours playing fingerstyle or complex chord voicings, that difference can be significant.
It's one of those guitars where you may not immediately identify why it feels so comfortable.
You simply notice that you don't want to put it down.
SLOTTED PEGHEAD — FUNCTION MEETS TRADITION
The slotted peghead gives the 312ce 12-Fret another distinctive element.
Visually, it reinforces the traditional personality associated with many 12-fret acoustic designs while giving this Taylor a noticeably different appearance from its standard 14-fret counterpart.
Combined with the Firestripe pickguard, Gemstone inlays and understated appointments, the result is sophisticated without becoming overly decorative.
This guitar doesn't need to shout.
Its design makes sense once it's in your hands.
TAYLOR EXPRESSION SYSTEM 2
When it's time to plug in, the 312ce 12-Fret is equipped with Taylor's Expression System 2 electronics.
Taylor's behind-the-saddle pickup design captures the dynamic properties of the guitar and provides convenient onboard control for amplified situations.
That makes the 312ce 12-Fret equally comfortable moving between home, studio, rehearsal and stage.
For singer-songwriters and fingerstyle performers in particular, having a compact and responsive acoustic that can transition directly into a PA or acoustic amplifier makes this an exceptionally practical professional instrument.

WHY THE 312ce 12-FRET MATTERS
There are plenty of acoustic guitars designed to produce more volume, more bass or more visual impact.
The 312ce 12-Fret is pursuing something different.
Connection.
The compact Grand Concert body brings the instrument physically closer to the player.
The short 24-7/8" scale creates a relaxed feel.
The 12-fret architecture gives the guitar its own playing personality.
Solid Sitka spruce and sapele deliver an articulate, woody voice.
And V-Class bracing helps give that smaller body impressive sustain and musical authority.
The result isn't merely a smaller acoustic.
It's a guitar designed around the relationship between your hands and the instrument.
THE NORTHEAST MUSIC CENTER PERSPECTIVE
At Northeast Music Center, we believe some guitars are best understood through specifications—and others really need to be played.
The Taylor 312ce 12-Fret belongs in that second group.
On paper, the differences can look small: a 12-fret neck joint, shorter scale and compact Grand Concert body.
Put those elements together, however, and the entire playing experience changes.
For the fingerstyle guitarist, songwriter, recording musician or player who simply wants an acoustic that feels exceptionally comfortable, the 312ce 12-Fret deserves serious consideration.
And because it combines that intimate playing experience with all-solid tonewoods, V-Class bracing and ES2 electronics, comfort doesn't come at the expense of professional capability.
As an authorized Taylor dealer, Northeast Music Center can help you compare the 312ce 12-Fret with traditional 14-fret Taylor models and determine which design feels most natural in your hands.
The Taylor 312ce 12-Fret Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar is available from Northeast Music Center and includes its Taylor Deluxe Hardshell Case.
