The SPAX7 is specially selected from MESA's 12AX7 testing process for exceptionally low microphonic sensitivity and is intended primarily for critical input and high-gain stages where the absolute lowest possible noise floor is desired.

For standard replacement throughout a compatible amplifier, the MESA 12AX7 remains the workhorse choice.

IMPORTANT REPLACEMENT NOTE

Preamp tubes generally do not need to be replaced as complete matched sets like power tubes.

If a tube becomes noisy, microphonic, weak, or otherwise problematic, an individual 12AX7 can often be replaced without changing every preamp tube in the amplifier.
