PRS Custom 24 Private Stock Flame Mango Top Natural Fat Back (s/n:0434514)! Guitar comes with PRS D1 Molded Hardshell Case!

Private Stock Takes the Custom 24 Somewhere Extraordinary

There are PRS guitars built from exceptional materials, and then there are Private Stock instruments where the combination of woods and specifications creates something that simply doesn't exist in the standard PRS catalog.

This PRS Custom 24 Private Stock Flame Mango Top Natural Fat Back, serial number 0434514, is exactly that kind of guitar.

The centerpiece is an extraordinary Flame Mango top, presented in a Natural finish that allows the figuring and organic character of the wood to become the visual identity of the instrument. Beneath it is an African Mahogany back and middle, but this isn't built to standard Custom 24 dimensions.

The Fat Back designation means this Custom 24 was constructed with the thicker body depth of a McCarty.

That is an important distinction.

PRS has effectively taken the fast, versatile 24-fret Custom 24 platform and given it the additional body depth and physical substance associated with the McCarty.

Then Private Stock takes the concept much further with a Curly Mahogany neck, Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, Flame Mango top, Mango headstock veneer, Brazilian Rosewood truss rod cover, Paua and Select Green Abalone Original Birds, DMO pickups, and Smoked Black hardware.

This is precisely the type of individual PRS build that makes Northeast Music Center so passionate about Private Stock.

Flame Mango — The Star of the Build

The first thing that separates serial number 0434514 from almost any other Custom 24 is obvious the moment you see it:

That Flame Mango top.

Flame Mango brings an entirely different visual personality than the figured maple most players associate with premium PRS guitars. It combines the natural variation and organic character of Mango with pronounced flame figuring that moves across the top.

And PRS made the right decision here by keeping the guitar Natural.

There's no dramatic color competing with the wood. Instead, the High Gloss Nitro finish enhances the depth and figuring of the Flame Mango while allowing its natural coloration to remain front and center.

On a Private Stock instrument, that's particularly important. You're not simply looking at a finish—you are looking at the actual piece of wood selected for this individual guitar.

PRS carries the Mango theme through to the headstock veneer, giving the instrument a beautifully cohesive appearance from body to headstock.

Fat Back — A Custom 24 with McCarty Body Thickness

The second major feature isn't as immediately visible in photographs, but it's equally important.

Fat Back refers to the body thickness.

This Private Stock Custom 24 has been built with the thicker body depth associated with a PRS McCarty, rather than standard Custom 24 body thickness.

It does not refer to the neck carve.

That distinction makes this a particularly interesting Private Stock configuration because it brings together characteristics of two cornerstone PRS designs.

You still get the fundamental architecture players expect from a Custom 24:

24 Frets
25" Scale Length
10" Fretboard Radius
Pattern Thin Neck
Dual Humbuckers
PRS Gen III Tremolo

But all of that is anchored to the more substantial McCarty-depth body.

For the experienced PRS player or collector, that's much more than an interesting line on the build sheet. It fundamentally distinguishes this guitar from an ordinary Custom 24.

  African Mahogany Back & Middle

Underneath the Flame Mango is an African Mahogany back and middle.

Because this is a Fat Back build, there's additional McCarty-style body depth behind that Flame Mango top, giving the guitar a substantial Mahogany foundation.

Private Stock even extends the African Mahogany into an area that could easily have been overlooked.

The back plates are African Mahogany.

Instead of standard plastic cavity covers, the back of the guitar continues the wood theme of the body itself.

That's the sort of detail that makes Private Stock special. The closer you examine the guitar, the more you discover.

  Curly Mahogany Neck

Turn your attention to the neck and the wood selection becomes even more interesting.

PRS selected Curly Mahogany.

That's an important distinction from a standard Mahogany neck. The natural figuring running through the Curly Mahogany makes the neck itself another visual centerpiece of the guitar rather than simply a structural component.

The High Gloss Nitro neck finish allows that figuring to show its depth and movement, complementing the Flame Mango on the opposite side of the instrument.

PRS carves the Curly Mahogany neck to a Pattern Thin profile.

That makes for an intriguing combination.

The body has the additional physical substance of McCarty-style Fat Back construction, while the Pattern Thin neck retains the streamlined, responsive feel many Custom 24 players prefer.

Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard — USA Only

The Curly Mahogany neck is capped with Brazilian Rosewood.

That takes an already exceptional wood package to another level.

Brazilian Rosewood has long occupied a special place among premium guitar woods, and its inclusion on this Private Stock gives serial number 0434514 another significant collector-grade appointment.

Private Stock carries the Brazilian Rosewood into the truss rod cover as well.

Altogether, the wood package is exceptional:

Flame Mango Top
African Mahogany Back & Middle
Curly Mahogany Neck
Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard
Mango Headstock Veneer
Brazilian Rosewood Truss Rod Cover
African Mahogany Back Plates

Because of the Brazilian Rosewood content, this instrument is designated:

USA ONLY

Original Birds with Paua & Select Green Abalone

The Brazilian Rosewood fretboard provides the perfect background for an elaborate—but unmistakably PRS—Private Stock inlay package.

This guitar features Original Birds with outlines and the Old School Eagle.

The centers are crafted from Paua, while the outlines are Select Green Abalone.

The combination creates remarkable natural shifts of blue, green, aqua, and other colors against the deep Brazilian Rosewood.

Rather than replacing one of PRS's most recognizable design elements with something completely different, Private Stock takes the classic bird concept and executes it using extraordinary materials.

Even the side dots are specified in Ivory.

  DMO Treble & Bass Pickups

An instrument built from such an interesting collection of woods deserves electronics capable of preserving clarity and dynamic response.

PRS equips this Custom 24 with DMO Treble and Bass pickups.

DMO stands for Dynamic, Musical, Open, which describes the philosophy behind the pickup design particularly well.

They provide the power and fullness expected from a great humbucker while maintaining openness, definition, and response to the player's touch.

The control layout is straightforward and familiar:

Volume
Push/Pull Tone
3-Way Toggle

The push/pull tone control provides additional split-coil textures, significantly expanding the guitar's range without cluttering the top with additional switches.

From full-bodied humbucker tones to clearer, more articulate split sounds, this is still a Custom 24 designed to cover serious musical ground.

  Smoked Black Hardware

Against the natural Flame Mango and warm Mahogany, the Smoked Black hardware is an inspired choice.

Rather than overpowering the woods, the dark hardware provides contrast and gives the guitar a slightly more contemporary edge.

The package includes a PRS Patented Tremolo Gen III along with Tweaked Phase III Locking Tuners.

Those tuners are fitted with distinctive Black Wing tuner buttons.

The theme continues throughout:

Smoked Black Hardware
Black Pickup Rings
Black Nut
Black Wing Tuner Buttons
Clear Lampshade Knobs

It's dramatic enough to distinguish the guitar without distracting from the Flame Mango top.

  Two PRS Ideas Brought Together

This is perhaps the best way to understand this Private Stock.

The Custom 24 has been central to PRS since the company's beginning. Its 24-fret layout, 25" scale, tremolo system, and broad tonal range helped establish what a PRS guitar could be.

The McCarty brought another philosophy to the PRS lineup, including its thicker body construction.

Serial number 0434514 brings an important part of those two worlds together.

It's fundamentally a Custom 24, but the Fat Back construction gives it McCarty-style body thickness.

Then Private Stock builds an extraordinary instrument around that foundation using Flame Mango, African Mahogany, Curly Mahogany, Brazilian Rosewood, Paua, Select Green Abalone, and Smoked Black hardware.

This isn't simply a premium Custom 24.

It's an individual Private Stock creation.
