2003 Music Man USA SUB active fully stripped, sanded and refinished in striking metallic graphite pearl by a professional automotive spray shop. The electronics have been removed, cleaned, tested and all pots deoxidised, and then reinstalled. These basses were famously built in the San Luis Obispo factory in California using poplar slab bodies and are manufactured to exactly the same spec as the Stingray Classics of the time.They were originally offered with blue, red, white or black textured paint and have the USA pickup and 2EQ active preamp. The necks were hard rock maple and sprayed black. All parts are USA standard fitment. The neck on this bass has been stripped of the black paint, sanded and refinished in tung gun stock oil and then buffed just like at the Music Man factory. The maple has some gorgeous figuring and feels super smooth and fast. It comes strung and set up with new 45-105 D’addario roundwound strings and includes a high quality Hiscox case. This bass is well set up, plays really nicely, sounds awesome and feels beautiful just like all USA Music Man basses. The metallic paint job looks awesome and the metallic flake really pops in the light. Its a really nice job although there a few small flaws in the finish, as the bass is 23 years old and the sanding was done by hand with an orbital sander. The top is very good. You have to look pretty closely to see any imperfections around the sides. The sanding job on the back wasn’t quite as thorough as the front and some small minor imperfections are visible. Study and zoom in on the photos.I chose the graphite pearl metallic finish for a Tony Levin “Sledge” look and it looks amazing with the black pickguard, but can easily be swapped for a mirror, white or any other colour for £15. Pic with mirror guard for reference.If you don‘t know about these USA SUBs then a quick search online will confirm they are 100% legit American Music Man Stingray level basses and they have quite a following. I can ship this bass within UK for £40 or to Europe but it's crazy expensive. I'm guessing £60 with insurance.
