Russian Recording is a full-service analog and digital recording studio in Bloomington, Indiana, owned and operated by Mike Bridavsky. For over 23 years, we’ve been making records with rare and esoteric analog equipment, including one of the most complete collections of vintage Soviet and Japanese microphones in the world.

Through years of obsessive research, restoration, and daily use of these microphones, we’ve become a trusted global resource for information on the rarest Soviet and Japanese designs ever made. We’ve serviced hundreds of microphones for engineers and producers worldwide and supplied properly functioning examples to studios across the globe.

Russian Recording is also home to Soviet American Audio Systems (SAAS), which began as a dedicated resource for Soviet and Japanese microphones—providing parts, repair, consultation, and restoration services, as well as sales of rare models. This project has since evolved into a boutique manufacturer co-founded by Bridavsky and audio engineer Michael Stucker. Soviet American Audio Systems develops new professional recording equipment inspired by classic Soviet and American designs, including preamps based on our studio’s rebuilt Sphere Eclipse Type III console and microphones modeled after some of the most iconic Soviet tube microphones ever made. Working, reliable examples of these vintage designs are nearly impossible to find today, and we’re setting out to make them available once again to working engineers and artists.

Our Reverb store offers a curated selection of some of the rarest microphones and equipment that can be found anywhere (along with some classics as well). Each piece has been tested, maintained, and used in real recording environments by engineers who intimately understand their history, character and intended functionality.
