Nuno Bettencourt, born in Portugal and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, grew up in a very musical family. In his teenage years he began playing drums, bass and keyboards, but ultimately settled on guitar as his primary instrument. Since then he has become one of the world's greatest guitarists, who draws from an eclectic variety of styles and influences and is a tremendously technical and adept player, with an acute sense of rhythm. Nuno is most famous for his role in the Boston-area group Extreme. To date, the Grammy-nominated band has released five studio albums, plus a greatest hits set, a live DVD and has sold over 10 million records worldwide. Extreme achieved a Billboard #1 hit single, “More Than Words” from their 1990 multi-platinum album Pornograffitti, which they followed with the Top Five single “Hole Hearted.” Nuno has also released multiple solo albums including Schizophonic and others with his bands Mourning Widows, Population 1 and Dramagods. In 2009, Nuno was personally recruited by Grammy Award winning R&B artist Rihanna to be her lead guitar player and touring musical director. His task was to bring his signature rock-edge to her more R&B/Dance sound. The collaboration resulted in an incredible live sonic experience and Nuno has joined Rihanna on her past 5 mega-world tours. Some recent career highlights include joining forces with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, to perform at the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo, Norway. As well as his performance with Paul McCartney, Rihanna and Kanye West at the 2015, 57th Grammy Awards where they debuted the song “FourFiveSeconds.”
