About Guitars-n-Cars

Guitars-N-Cars actually stems from the culmination of over 20 years of small business. Founder Jason Pickard began building custom Classical guitars in 1999, and in 2003 opened a local music lessons store in Charlotte, North Carolina named Music49. Through the bumps and bruises of an uncertain economy, Pickard averaged building 6-8 custom acoustic guitars per year while operating Music49 and teaching classical guitar at Gardner Webb University. While guitarmaking was his first love, Jason's father (a former Machinist by trade) passed a love of metalworking along to him, and he added metal fabrication to his repertoire of craftsmanship. Of Course, being a trained classical guitarist who lives in Nascar Country North Carolina, old school hotrods and racecars were in Pickard's DNA......so by 2010, the building of guitars was joined with the building of cars. Here's where the story gets interesting. Through what seems like strange divine intervention, the world shuts down for a global pandemic, and Music49 is forced to close temporarily while teaching for Gardner Webb became an online venture. So with a pregnant wife at home out of work because of service industry shutdown, and a 3 year old son to provide for, Jason started going to peoples houses and doing metal fabrication on antique cars. In particular, a local car collector Ray Greene wanted Mr. Pickard to teach him how to Weld, but instead Greene entrusted Jason to work on his personal collection nearly every day. It was Mr.Greene who actually encouraged Jason to challenge himself on cars like 1940 ford Coupes and 1955 Chevrolet Bel Airs and take his metalwork more seriously, like his guitarmaking. So when the world opened back up, in a time that's not particularly favorable for small businesses, Pickard and wife Melissa signed a lease in Kannapolis to Merge his Guitarmaking and Metal Fabrication (along with Music49) to become GUITARS-N-CARS!!!
