I've been playing, buying and selling guitars, amps, and other music gear since the late 1970s, long before the internet came along. And for years I lost money on pretty much every deal to people that were a lot sharper than me (thanks for the lessons, guys!), but did ultimately learn a few things about vintage gear. I used to play sort of professionally (meaning I'd get paid) during the 80s in a few bands that you've never heard of, and recently started to play out again in a band for the first time in ages. I've never had a store, never done this full-time, but over the years I've learned a lot about vintage pieces and the parts that go on them. I've also learned a lot about dealing fairly with people, and have developed a pretty good online reputation (on ebay, you can find me as seller name jkally, with over 4500 positive feedback ratings). I use Reverb pretty often now and I've been happy with the site. I try hard to accurately represent items, pack carefully, and steer clear of merchandise that seems in any way questionable (so no mislabeled cheap Chinese knock-offs, nothing broken unless I say it is a "project", no scratched-out serial numbers, etc.). I have always liked the oddball stuff, store brands, imports, and similar and rarely do I actually get my hands on premium grade guitars (in the dark past I have owned a real 52 goldtop, a real 63 Strat, 52 Tele, 36 Super 400, 40 Martin D28 and a few others but all those are now long gone, although nice things do sometimes find their way to me even today).
