Be sure to follow these steps when unboxing.
Step 1. Document any damage to the box before unboxing.
Step 2. Allow for Acclimation: After unboxing your guitar carefully with a box cutter or scissor, let it rest in your home for at least 24 hours before playing. This gives the instrument time to adjust to the temperature and humidity of its new environment, preventing any adverse effects on the wood and tuning from sudden changes.
Step 3. Inspect the Guitar: After the acclimation period, carefully check the guitar for any signs of damage or issues that may have arisen during shipping. Look out for warping, cracks, or any changes in setup.
Step 4. Tune the Guitar: Once the guitar has adjusted to its new environment, tune it up. The strings may need some time to stabilize and stretch after being shipped.
Perform a Basic Setup: Depending on how the guitar was shipped, you might need to make minor setup adjustments, such as tuning the truss rod, action, or intonation.
Allowing the guitar to acclimate ensures it’s stable and properly set up, leading to a better playing experience and minimizing issues related to environmental changes.
