About Ithaca Guitar Works

Our store was originally opened by John Ellis in 1968 under the name The Guitar Work Shop where it was located in Ithaca New York's college town by Cornell University. In 1972 John moved the store downtown into the Dewitt mall which is a re-purposed 5 story High School building that has 5 retail stores an organic co-op grocery and 2 restaurants including the world famous Moosewood restaurant. Paul Meisenzahl Purchased the Store from John Ellis in 1978 and changed the name to Ithaca Guitar Works. In 1981 Chris Broadwell and Eric Aceto purchased the store from Paul and by 1996 Eric Aceto left to make high quality boutique stringed instruments under the name Ithaca Stringed instruments. Chris is still the proprietor of Ithaca Guitar Works this day and works with his wife/bookkeeper Heather, two sons Ashley and Rylan, Charles master of song books and long time friend and luthier Harry Aceto. Currently Ithaca guitar works sells new stringed instruments from Taylor, Fender, Martin, Gretsch, Kala, Deering, Weber, Eastman and more. We also stock many used and vintage instruments and amplifiers.
