Hello all! My name is Chris Kohlman, a bass and guitar builder based in Hampton Roads, Virginia. First and foremost, I am a player, which means my passion of the past 40 years fuels my other passion: instrument building. The quick backstory is that I have been doing repairs, setups, and other tech-related work for over 25 years and decided one day to combine my architecture, engineering, and woodworking skills into one place.

And Kohlman Bassworks was born. That was about seven years ago. I build basses for players...nothing leaves my shop unless I feel it's gig worthy. I have models for every range of players with models like the NeoJazz for a jazz bass with a modern approach to the Nomad, a more traditional bass for the old soul in all of us. I am also a custom builder, with design limited only by your imagination. The beauty of being a solo builder is that I can craft the bass that fits your style as well as the tone you seek.

Players like Steve Cook (Phil Vassar), Travis Vance (Thomas Rhett), Keith Horne (Tanya Tucker, Tricia Yearwood, Peter Frampton, Waylon Jennings, Hot Apple Pie, Secrets) and Mike Lusk (Loretta Lynn) are enjoying my creations on stages across the country. So I am thrilled, and quite humbled to see my ideas creating music and inspiring players on every level. And I love what I do!
