Video: Margaret Glaspy and the Making of "Emotions and Math"

Hours before her sold out show at Schuba's Tavern in Chicago, Margaret Glaspy snuck away to spend some time with us in the Reverb studio.

In this series of videos, you’ll hear how Margaret's first full-length release, Emotions and Math, was born out of diligence, part-time jobs, self-imposed guidelines, and continual re-imagining.

Margaret walks us through the development of her sound over time, falling in and out of love with beautiful vintage guitars, cranking up 5-watt amps, and how she drives the integrity of her performance through songwriting restrictions.

Margaret illustrates her acute tastes in tone and how she’s arrived at the musical principles she holds dear. But she also reminds us that the specifics of gear and tone don't matter as much as what you need to accomplish with them.
