A couple of months ago, sample-based producer Fess Grandoise illuminated just how many legendary classic rockers used prerecorded music as a songwriting tool. This was before the term "sampling" ever even came to be in the 1980s. The process in those early days was much more tedious, involving a lot of manual splicing and repeating of magnetic tape.
These days, we not only have hardware that makes recording and working with samples easier, we also have access to countless libraries already packed with samples of everything you can imagine. And today, we're happy to welcome Fess into the Reverb studio to show us his tips and tricks for making specifically drum samples sounds stellar.
