Mike Campbell is one of the most prolific guitarists of our time. He has been penning some of the most legendary and widely recognized riffs with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers since the band's inception in 1976.
We here at Reverb were recently lucky enough to host the famous Heartbreaker in our studio, where he first talked us through why he loves broken in vintage guitars. "They just sound better to me, they just feel better."
Campbell also shared with us some of his most revered influences — Jerry Garcia and Mike Bloomfield, particularly — when it comes to guitar playing, and he even showed us a couple of his tricks for nailing the vibrato technique that he has spent so much time refining.
"Your vibrato is really your voice. I worked on my vibrato a lot... I worked as hard on my vibrato as anything else."
