Video: Dweezil Zappa Explains His Stereo Touring Rig

For over a decade, Dweezil Zappa has been playing his father’s repertoire around the world, first in Zappa Plays Zappa and then, after some legal disputes with the executors of the Zappa Family Trust, as 50 Years of Frank: Dweezil Zappa Plays Whatever the F@%k He Wants.

Dweezil has developed a special stereo rig for these tours, replicating the guitar tones heard on Frank Zappa’s studio albums while giving himself complete control over the interaction between two separate effects channels.

Dweezil makes heavy use of two Fractal Audio Ax-FX II amp modeling and multieffect systems, one for each stereo channel. Along with an array of stompboxes, he uses expression pedal to control wet/dry mix in the left and right channels.

Some of the pedal’s on Dweezil’s board were custom built for him, but several are popular pedals right here on Reverb.
