We're at the 139th AES convention at the Javits Center in New York, and the show floor is bustling with new products and old friends. Among Reverb's pals is John Jennings at Royer Labs, who took some time to walk us through the new R-122 MKII active ribbon microphone. This update to an already great microphone brings a switchable -15dB pad and a very smooth bass cut to the party, making the R-122 MKII even more useful for close-up recording of loud guitar amps, blaring trumpets, and anything else that tips the SPL scales toward the threshold of pain.
