Reason 9.5 Announced, Will Host 3rd Party VSTs

Propellerhead has announced Reason 9.5, a new version of the popular DAW that will allow users to employ synthesizers, effects, and other audio devices that were not solely developed by the Swedish firm.

With Reason 9.5, Reason will finally offer users the ability to load 3rd party VSTs into its rack framework, breaking the hermetic production environment that has defined Reason since its debut in 2000.

External VST integration was a long–time demand of Reason users, but Propellerhead has always been open about the fact that external VSTs (and their lack of universal quality control) threaten the stability of any host DAW. Sans VST integration, Reason has enjoyed a reputation for its negligible crash rate.

But it seems that Propellerhead has chosen to take some risks in order to keep its evolving production environment flexible and competitive.

Reason 9.5 will be released on May 29 and available as free update to anyone with a valid Reason 9 license.
