Martin Updates Its Standard Series for 2018

Today, Martin announced that its flagship Standard Series is being reimagined this year for the first time in the company's 185-year history. But how do you go about updating a classic? The answer seems to be: very carefully.

Fred Greene, Martin’s Senior Director of Product Management, called the process "a real challenge," and CEO Chris Martin mentioned that the discussions surrounding the project were "quite animated."

Martin added that, "Fortunately, we all knew we were working toward a common goal: How can we modernize traditional Martin Guitar models while continuing to honor our rich history and heritage? Well, together we met that challenge head-on, and the results far exceeded my expectations.”

Major changes include a thinner and more modern high performance neck, vintage appointments like aging toner and open-gear tuners, and scalloped or forward-shifted top bracing based on body style.
