Green Day's Mike Dirnt Is Selling a Career-Spanning Collection of Gear on Reverb

Green Day's Mike Dirnt will soon be selling bass guitars, amps, clothing, and more used on tour and in the studio throughout his career in The Official Mike Dirnt of Green Day Reverb Shop.

Launching on September 9, the shop will offer dozens of basses—from stage-played signatures to studio mainstays—amps and cabs that have criss-crossed the world with Dirnt, and iconic clothing from tours and music videos, with proceeds from his tour clothing going to charity.

"I’ve found some amazing guitars and basses over the years. When you’re on tour for a long time, you’re always looking for cool gear. You’re always thinking about what could be on the next record or what do I need to play tonight or what can I find that sparks inspiration," said Dirnt.

"Every guitar, every bass, every amp has something different. You pick up a guitar and strum it and you think, there’s songs in this thing and I’m going to extract those songs. Then once you feel like you’ve gotten the songs or the recording out of it, it’s time to let it go and give it to the next person."

Among the items that will be available in Dirnt’s Reverb shop are several bass guitars that were burned on stage during the late ‘90s and early 2000s Nimrod and Warning tours, when Tré Cool would set fire to his kit. According to Dirnt: "Tré Cool is our resident pyromaniac…there’d be a 20-foot fire going and my bass and Tré’s kit are burning while Billie’s playing ‘Time of Your Life.’ It was pretty awesome actually."

The Official Mike Dirnt of Green Day Reverb Shop will also feature:

  • Two American Idiot-era Fender Mike Dirnt Signature Precision bass guitars used extensively on that record’s tours and customized by Dirnt himself.
  • One of the first Ampeg SVT-810 cabinets that Dirnt purchased with his first Green Day paycheck and used on the Dookie tour. "It has no speakers in it right now, but the cabinet is fully intact with all of its roadworn awesomeness."
  • A signed Fender bass guitar that was one of the main basses used to record the Nimrod album.
  • One of Dirnt’s original Gibson Grabber bass guitars, which was unintentionally smashed beyond playability by Tré Cool and Dirnt, making it a one-of-a-kind piece of memorabilia.
  • One of two Yamaha G100-II amp heads that Mike used on some of the earliest Green Day records and tours.
  • A 1962 Fender Precision bass in Fiesta Red that was once part of Dirnt’s "studio quiver." Of the bass he said, "It’s a special bass. This thing really plays incredibly."
  • Several Mesa Boogie amps and speaker cabinets that were used by Dirnt for years on tour. Of the cabs, Dirnt says "They’re just bulletproof, incredible cabinets. I should probably keep one and use it as a coffee table because they’re really cool, but I could also plug stuff into it at the same time."

Clothing in the shop will also include a reversible, patch-filled Revolution Radio era vest with "Who the f*ck is Tré Cool?" stitched on one side, jackets from the 21st Century Breakdown, American Idiot, and ¡UNO! tours, Dickies pants pinstriped by Dirnt, and a faux fur animal print jacket from the group’s Foxboro Hot Tubs side-project. Proceeds from the clothing in Dirnt’s Reverb shop will go to charity.

"This is all stuff people have seen me wearing in the past," Dirnt said of the clothing, nearly all of which were designed, altered, or reconstructed by him. "If somebody wants to buy a pair of the pants and cut it, make bracelets with it, cut a patch off and put it on your jacket…that’s the coolest thing ever. It’s just fabric. Play with it. Have fun with it like I did. From me to you."

While this is the premiere of Dirnt’s Reverb shop, it's not the first time that he and his bandmates have sold gear on Reverb. Billie Joe Armstrong sold a collection of personal gear on Reverb in 2017, with the full band launching The Official Green Day Reverb Shop in 2019, with several restocks following that—and more anticipated…
