Electro-Harmonix Releases MEL9 Mellotron Simulator

No need to shell out thousands of dollars to get a classic Mellotron sound anymore; Electro-Harmonix will be releasing the MEL9 tape replay machine, which emulates nine of the Mellotron’s most well-known sounds.

The MEL9 uses the same technology that can be found in the Electro-Harmonix B9, C9, and KEY9, and doesn’t actually require a pickup to give you bendable polyphonic keyboard sounds, such as Orchestra, Cello, Strings, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Brass, Low Choir and High Choir, all of which are controllable with attack, sustain, dry and effect output knobs. The MEL9 will even track your slides and whammy dives!

“The distinctive sound of those early polyphonic tape replay keyboards has become part of the fabric of modern music," said Mike Matthews, Electro-Harmonix president. "Our new MEL9 provides guitarists and other musicians with a portable, practical and affordable way to emulate some of those amazing sounds.”

Check out the video above to hear the MEL9 in action and experience each of its nine distinctive sounds.
