Introduced in 1966, the Yamaha FG180 was the company's first domestically produced folk guitar and is widely known as the "Red Label," one of the most iconic Japanese vintage acoustic guitars.

This model belongs to the Red Label series, carrying on the tradition of the original FG180 while incorporating modern technology and craftsmanship.

The top is made from solid Sitka spruce treated with Yamaha's exclusive A.R.E. wood enhancement process. A.R.E. is a proprietary technology that uses precisely controlled temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure without any chemicals to recreate, in a short period of time, the natural aging process that normally takes decades after the wood is cut. This treatment improves sound transmission and vibration efficiency, enhances the richness and sustain of the low and mid frequencies, and provides greater clarity, faster response, and smoother decay in the high frequencies.

The result is a well-balanced, warm, mature tone with reduced harsh overtones. Combined with solid mahogany back and sides, the guitar features a classic all-solid wood construction.

This model is also equipped with Yamaha's original Atmosfeel pickup system, making it an excellent acoustic-electric guitar.

The Atmosfeel system combines three different pickup sources to capture each frequency range with exceptional accuracy. An undersaddle piezo sensor reproduces the low and mid frequencies, a built-in microphone captures the low-end resonance of the body, and an ultra-thin proprietary contact sensor reproduces the high frequencies.

The addition of the durable piezoelectric synthetic paper contact sensor allows the system to reproduce subtle details that conventional pickup systems often miss, including the natural resonance from the soundhole, the lingering sustain of each string, the touch and articulation of fingerstyle playing, and the delicate airiness created by high-frequency overtones.

As a result, the natural sound and feel of playing the guitar acoustically are faithfully delivered through the line output.

The controls are simple and intuitive, allowing the three pickup sources to be blended with ease. The master volume adjusts the overall output while preserving subtle tonal nuances, and the microphone blend control adds the natural resonance of the guitar body.

The Bass EQ control allows the center frequency of the bass equalizer to be adjusted, making it easy to tailor the low-end response for different playing situations. Whether cutting bass frequencies in a full band mix or enhancing the low end for fingerstyle performance, the system provides flexible tone shaping to suit a wide range of musical applications.
