The D-28 is the most famous model in the Martin Guitars lineup. Born in 1934 as a dreadnought model with the same 14-fret joint as today's models, it remains a beloved world standard. This particular instrument is a used 1988 model. It features a spruce top, rosewood sides and back, ebony fingerboard and bridge, black pickguard, and non-scalloped X-bracing. While the truss rod changed from a non-adjustable square rod to an adjustable rod in 1985, this particular instrument was made with the original square rod specification. It boasts a deep, rich resonance and a crisp sound. It resonates with a wide range, from deep bass to sparkling treble. The sound is smooth and easy to handle, with ample headroom and core strength to withstand strong picking, making it suitable for a wide range of playing styles. You can fully enjoy the thick sound characteristic of the square rod. There is a repaired neck break at the neck volute, a screw hole for a strap pin in the neck heel, and other scratches and signs of use commensurate with its age. There are signs of binding repair, and some damage to the inner section. The guitar has a nice, weathered look with weather checking, and is in good playing condition. The saddle has been lowered for string height adjustment, but tension is maintained through modification of the bridge's string grooves. Equipped with an L.R. Baggs Ibeam pickup, it's a truly usable instrument. Due to the boom in electric guitars in the 1980s, Martin guitars from this era were produced in limited numbers, making this particular model difficult to find. An original hardshell case is included.
