Zak Starkey has forged his career through talent, dedication, and an unmistakable style that blends explosive power with remarkable musicality and cat-like musical reflexes. It probably didn't hurt that he grew up in close company with three of the greatest drummers in rock history, Keith Moon, Kenney Jones and his father Ringo Starr. Although his connection to rock royalty is well known, Starkey earned his reputation through decades of world-class performances with some of the most influential bands in rock history.

Zak first gained international recognition through work with artists including Johnny Marr, The Icicle Works, and Lightning Seeds before joining Oasis during one of the band's most successful periods. In 1996, he joined The Who, and brilliantly established his creative role in the band, still honoring the legacy of Keith Moon. Over nearly three decades with the band, he became an essential part of The Who's live performances and one of the most respected rock drummers of his generation.

The instruments featured here come directly from Zak Starkey's personal collection and include drums passed on from his mentor and predecessor in The Who, Keith Moon.

More than memorabilia, these are the tools of a drummer who successfully carried one of rock's greatest traditions into the modern era while establishing a legacy entirely his own.

Zak Starkey's The WHO, 2010 Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show, DW Custom Clear Acrylic Complete Drum Set.

Zak Starkey played this one of a kind, DW clear acrylic 8 piece drum set with custom Zildjian RAF graphic cymbals circa 2010-2015, most famously for The WHO's Super Bowl XLIV Half Time show. Their performance was seen by a record 106.5 million viewers. The band's performance marked the end of the "Classic Rock Era" of Super Bowl Halftime shows that had featured iconic artists including Paul McCartney, Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and The Rolling Stones. Zak also played the set for The WHO's performances at the 2015 Music Cares benefit joined by Bruce Springsteen and Billy Idol.

This one-of-a-kind clear acrylic drum set was built to Zak's specifications by Drum Workshop specifically for the Who's appearance at Super Bowl XLIV in 2010. At the time DW did not offer acrylic shells, so they sourced the clear acrylic shells from RCI/Starlite. They opted to use their PDP tube style lugs instead of their trademark "turret" lugs in the hope it would dissuade customer requests for clear drums that they couldn't currently produce. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), the visual impact of Zak's clear set was so intense that it inspired a landslide of requests for clear drums that ultimately led to the creation of DW's highly successful Performance Series Acrylic drum line.

The set consists of two 16" x 24" bass drums; 8" × 12", 9" × 13", and 10" × 14" rack toms; 16" x 16" and 16" x 18" floor toms; and a 6½" × 14" snare drum.

Zak devised a set of RAF graphic Red/White/Blue cymbals that he challenged the Zildjian cymbalsmiths to create. They produced a set of 24" 22'', 20'' cymbals with a matching set of 14" Mastersound hi-hats.

The red-white-blue target graphic was inspired by British Royal Air Force markings used to identify their aircraft in World War II. The WHO unofficially adopted the graphic as their logo in the 1960s and has been closely associated with the band ever since. 

Spoiler Alert!! The painted graphic deadens the sound of the cymbals to the point that they're nearly silent. Due to security tightened security precautions initiated after Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" a few years earlier, The WHO were required to lip synch their performance to a previously recorded audio track. These nearly silent cymbals were well suited to the performance.

-Only the 24", 20" and the 14" hi-hats are included with this set. The 22" cymbal seen in the photos is not included but available separately.

-The DW acrylic drum set consists of two 16" x 24" bass drums; 8" × 12", 9" × 13", and 10" × 14" rack toms; 16" x 16" and 16" x 18" floor toms; and a 6½" × 14" snare drum.

-The complete set of DW stands and hardware seen in the photos is included. Throne is not included.

-Timpani seen in some photos is not included.

-The drums and cymbals show some minor signs of wear but remain in excellent condition with no notable issues.

-The 20" cymbal is signed on the underside by Zak Starkey.

-The snare drum is signed by Zak Starkey.

-A pair of Zak's hand signed Zildjian Signature Model sticks and Letter Of Provenance signed by David Frangioni, CEO of Modern Drummer Magazine and the previous owner of the set is included.
