Late 1990s Alembic Rogue 5-String with Europa Electronics: Neck-Through Construction, Ebony Fingerboard & Hardshell Case

Alembic has been building some of the finest and most distinctive basses in the world since 1971, and the Rogue is one of their most visually dramatic and ergonomically refined designs. The sweeping body curves, extended upper horn that reaches to the 12th fret, and tummy and forearm contours make this one of the most comfortable and perfectly balanced instruments you will ever strap on. There is simply no neck dive with a Rogue, even in five string configuration.

This late 1990s example is in excellent condition and features the Europa electronics package, which is one of the most powerful and versatile onboard preamp systems ever put into a production bass. The Europa electronics center around Alembic's proprietary low-pass filter system: rather than a conventional cut and boost EQ, you are shaping tone by sweeping a filter across the frequency spectrum from around 300Hz all the way up to 6kHz, with a Q-switch that tightens the filter response for a more focused, parametric-style boost at your chosen frequency. Bass and treble cut/flat/boost switches give you instant access to useful tonal shifts on the fly without touching a knob. Volume, pan, filter, Q-switch, bass switch, and treble switch. Once you understand the system it is extraordinarily intuitive and delivers a tonal range that conventional active EQ simply cannot match. Deep and warm for blues and R&B, bright and zingy for slap, aggressive and focused for rock: it is all there.

Neck-through construction, ebony fingerboard, 34" scale, gold hardware, and the characteristic Alembic brass nut and bridge hardware for maximum sustain and string isolation. At 10 lbs 4 oz this is a substantial instrument but the balance is exceptional. Excellent condition throughout. Ships with hardshell case.
